The “Clinical Updates and Surveillance Recommendations for DNA Replication Repair Deficiency Syndromes in Children and Young Adults” paper was recently published in AACR’s Clinical Cancer Research journal and describes the recent advances in the diagnostics, surveillance, and clinical management for children with RRD syndromes.
Our communications committee member Michelle Springer, MS, CGC, together with Kami Wolfe Schneider, MS, CGC, and education committee member Kristin Zelley, MS, LCGC, created the AACR cheat sheet, which is intended as a reference for genetic counselors, GI’s, and other providers treating DNA Replication Repair Deficiency Syndromes in Children and Young Adults.
Kami Schneider, one of the authors of the AACR paper, highlights the importance and significance of the paper:
"One of the biggest shifts I am seeing is increased recognition that Lynch syndrome is not an "adult-onset" condition. Surveillance for heterozygous carriers might not be recommended until adulthood, but there are exceptions, replication repair defects impact children in a variety of ways, and genetic counseling at any age can help with personalized approaches to care."
