Making a difference through Advocacy - Our Members have a Voice!

The Fight CRC Action Center provides a platform to engage legislators and get involved on the federal, state, and local levels.

We invite and encourage our members to Act Now to help increase access to genetics services! Click here to ask your member of Congress to cosponsor H.R. 2144/S.1450, the “Access to Genetic Counselor Services Act.

Will this make a difference, I hear you ask.

1. In collaboration with Fight CRC, CGA-IGC members Heather Hampel, Swati Patel, Peter Stanich, and Jennifer Weiss asked CGA members to nominate “Lynch Syndrome-Related Cancers: Risk Assessment, Genetic Counseling, and Genetic Testing” as a New Topic to be reviewed by the United States Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF). We are pleased to report that this topic has been added to the list of preventive services under consideration by the USPSTF. If approved, this designation will significantly improve coverage for genetic counseling and genetic testing services.

2. We thank CGA-IGC members who responded to our call to support the proposed Medicare for a Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measure requiring hospitals to track and report their universal tumor screening for Lynch syndrome. We are happy to report that the measure has moved on to the next stage of approval, in large part because of widespread support from our organization and members. Read about the importance of high-quality tumor based testing here.

So you see, your participation does make a REAL difference. Thanks for your support!
